This Digest encourages the adoption of post occupancy evaluation (POE) as part of a process of continuous improvement in building performance. It introduces readers to a strategic method of post occupancy evaluation specifically tailored to the early stages of a building's occupancy (ie the first 12 months) and discusses how this method might be employed within a project. It also assists in providing more background to the POE debate by introducing the less experienced client or less familiar designer to some general principles of post occupancy evaluation. The method involves completing a checklist during a discussion between the client and project team in a workshop session. The early stage POE method is presented in tabular form. Further sources of POE advice or other techniques are given. 12 pages.
