Book Description

This report provides a simple tool for selecting the most suitable location for siting a wind turbine on a duo-pitch house roof and for calculating the expected wind speeds over house roofs to determine its power output. It describes a programme of wind tunnel testing to measure wind speeds above house roofs. Tests were carried out on typical two-storey detached and terraced houses with 25 and 50 degree duo-pitch roofs. Twenty building configurations were tested, together with the effects of different terrain types and of the shelter provided by nearby buildings. 44 pages.
  • Quantitative information on expected wind speeds around house roofs and the effect of terrain and nearby buildings
  • Provides a simple tool for selecting the most suitable location for a wind turbine on a house roof and determining its power output
  • Based on extensive wind tunnel testing
