Book Description

Please note that this is a scanned copy of a paper originally published in 2000, so the text is not as clear as in documents created as pdf files.

This Information Paper summarises the key findings from a series of retrospective studies of environmentally acclaimed buildings. Ten buildings were featured, representing winning and highly commended schemes from the 'Green Building of the Year Award' organised by the Heating and Ventilating Contractors Association (HVCA) in association with Independent Newspapers. The award scheme was operated for a six-year period from 1992 until 1997.

Part 1 covers small projects: Woodhouse Medical Centre, Grove Road Primary School, Peter Holden Architects HQ, Sheiling Community Centre, Bishopswood Education Centre and Linacre College.

Part 2 covers large projects (buildings over 1000m2): Wansbeck General Hospital, MOD Procurement Executive, Xerox UK Headquarters, and the Queen's Building, de Montfort University.

This IP draws general conclusions and lists items for consideration when designing similar buildings.
