Book Description

This Information Paper is a 6 page summary of BR483, Innovation in concrete frame construction 1995-2015. The report reviews innovation in concrete frame construction over the past 10 years and identifies future trends.

Many innovations trialled at the European Concrete Building Project at Cardington are being used and are regarded as important by industry. This information paper comments on nine process innovations that formed part of the project and briefly discusses both their use in practice and the barriers to their adoption.

Other innovations not part of the Cardington project are also covered. Among them, lightweight formwork and computer-based technology are seen to be the most influential. Major trends and issues likely to be the focus of innovation in the concrete frame construction industry over the coming decade are green issues, efficiency of production and aspects of labour and training.
