Incising UK-grown Sitka spruce (Downloadable version)

by E Suttie (19-Oct-2005)

Book Description

This paper provides information on the potential opportunities and benefits of incising spruce, which could extend the end-use applications of this UK-grown timber. It gives results of field trials and laboratory tests which show how incising the timber can improve penetration of preservative and hence increase durability. This technology could be used to take preservative-treated Sitka spruce into Use Class 4 applications such as highway fence posts and landscaping timber.

The paper will be of interest to those involved in the specification and use of treated wood products, and to the wider wood-processing industry and fencing producers. 12 pages.
