Book Description

This report considers issues surrounding the use of reinforced concrete flat slab construction. It is not intended to be prescriptive and recognises that there are many alternative design approaches. The choice of design method is very much one of personal preference. It should be based on what is appropriate for the structure to be designed, on the designer's own previous experience, and on what is likely to benefit the client most. This report gives some pointers as to how existing design guidance and methods could be developed and made more user-friendly, particularly with the advent of Eurocode 2 in the next few years. It also points out issues for the Permanent Works Designer to consider as a result of the desire to strike slabs earlier and speed up the construction process. 47 pages.
